Is it possible to get health insurance to pay for PGD

Has anyone been successful at getting the insurance company to pay for PGD? We have spoken to the insurance coordinater at our doctors office and she is not having any luck. Apparently PGD for CF is only given a Y-code, meaning insurance carrier will not pay for the PGD diagnosis because it considered "expairamental". Even though it has been done for 20years. Makes me so mad that they will pay for a lifetime of health care but, not for the prevention of it. Any suggestions or ideas?

I would get it pre authorized, and if they deny that pre-auth I'd appeal it. I HAVE heard of that happening, although not for CF but for a different genetic disease.

Hi Julie,
The insurance coordinator did send in the pre autherization but does know if the insurance co will do that. Something about because of our insurance type doesn't need to be approved. We did the IVF with PGD for CF about 2 years ago and were unsuccessful and just finally paid off that bill. It was an absolute mess between the hospital and the insurance co. In fact they are most likely still sending claims back and forth. What a mess that was. I makes me so mad that the insurance co makes this so hard for us. All we want is a healthy baby. But they don't want to pay for that. They will however pay for a sick child as we sadly found out. And OH did they pay, My son was in the NICU for 2 months and had an 250,000 hospital bill. It just makes me crazy!
