Hi All,

It's that time of year again! My kids are getting excited about going back to school. Jake will be a middle schooler! They grow up so fast.

Here are some resources I've put together over the years for getting our kids (and us!) ready including a teacher letter, sample 504 plan for CF, and how to teach classmates about CF (including an audio of me teaching my daughter's 2nd grade class).

Feel free to share the links and copy whatever is there. Good luck this fall!

Hugs and Hope,

Lisa, we used your site, resources when DS started kindergarten two years ago. They used the letter to teachers as a basis for his 504 plan. Each fall we get together with the teacher, principal, school nurses and counselor to go over the plan and to answer any questions. So far it's just been a matter or making sure he gets his enzymes -- but we have wording in there regarding potential bathroom issues, etc.

One thing we like to mention during those meetings is that DS is a normal child who just needs a couple extra things to keep him healthy. The last thing we want him doing is trying to play the sick card to get out of doing something he doesn't like. Example: He tries to tell us his legs are too tired to get out of walking somewhere.

Hi Liza, LOL for your son's tired legs. Yes, they are good at figuring out ways to work the system. We've also had to let our teachers know "treat our kid like a typical kid"- no special treament except what we'de discussed. Thx for sharing that my site was helpful. :) Hugs!
