IV and work

Dear Gun,
I have a portacath now and that enables me to have a "normal" life, prepare my medication myself, and do home treatment quite comfortably. Whether or not I am able to go out and have out-of-home activities depends on the antibiotic cycle they give me. Right now I am on Tobramicin 350 mg once a day, and that's quite comfortable, but when you have 2 antibiotics every 8 hours, you're more or less "doomed" to staying at home.
On the other hand, my work is mainly done at home (whether translations or my home-based-business) so I have never had to deal with bosses and offices, but from what I hear from other CF-ers in Mallorca, during IV's they just request to be off work ("baja laboral", during which you are paid anyway) and stay at home. You might be missing sleep and being extra tired, and rest is an important part of the treatment, so if you can possibly request a "baja" it would be much better!

Hi all, sorry for not writing sooner, but it's been pretty hectic here. I'm on home IV since a week ago. And I am not working, I am on two antibiotics, every 8 and 12 hours, so working is out of question, pluss I don't feel strong enough yet. Some of you mention IV balls...we dont have that here, but bags, maybe the balls are more modern? The rutine with flushing the picc line and all, makes it hard for me to imagine doing it at work...needles and all. There is so much equipment...

Anyway, it turns out I have very delicate veins, so getting the picc placed was an adventure. The first one showed up as not rightly placed after the x ray, with the second one, they couldnt see the end of the picc on the xray, but sent me home with it anyways. It fell out the next day. The third one was placed in my left arm, but...yes...crept out also later that day while at home. By the forth one I had lost all hope, and scared and anxious, and getting that picc in HURT...the first ones did not, but my body couldnt relax by the forth one. But luckily it's still in my arm, since Friday. It's gone out just one or two cm, but maybe that'normal? And I took about 5 xrays in a few days...

Any one else have scary stories with picc? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
