IV's: side effects

Anyone else get side-effects not listed as "so called" side effects when you take IV's.

The last couple times on the zosyn, tobra combo, I have had what I think are side effects but the doctor and pharmacist have told me these "symptoms" are not usually side effects from the drug.

I felt good on the meds this time for two weeks but the third week I experienced headaches, achiness, tiredness and joint pain. It was as if I had the flu. The symptoms started improving the day I stopped the meds.

My husband says that he always feels like that when he starts taking IV antibotics. He says that he feels worse than before he started them, but usually by the end of the course he is feeling better.

I am the same way! I feel sooooo very ill! I get high fevers and chills and throwing up when I start my IV drugs and then it eventually gets better as the 2 weeks on the drugs go by. BUt I am tired, loss of appetite when I am IV drugs all the way through. I do not know what the deal is! I am sickier than a dog when I start the drugs and I am not like that before I go in for the tune up.

The doc said that the drugs are killing off all the bacteria etc and as it dies it releases toxins into your bloodstream which can make you really sick. They have done TONS of blood work and can never find anything as to why I get high fevers, low blood pressure and throwing up when I start my drugs. Luckily it peeters out.

I have had TERRIBLE headaches/migraines once when I was on Azetrenon ( sorry on spelling) so I never take that anymore. It was so bad that my head hurt unbearable for the 2 week treatment and then for a month after. Tried accupuncture and migraine meds. IT was AWEFUL!!!

Good luck, I feel your pain!!!!

wow, this sounds awful! I have never had side effects like the one's you're mentioning. But I usually do a Tobra, Ceftaz combo. Maybe it's not one drug or the other, but a combination of the two interacting with one another that gives you the flu-like symptoms. Can you ask to try a different med maybe? I'm sure they will want to keep the Tobra in the mix, but maybe switch out the Zosyn for something else. Hope you feel better soon and get off the IVs altogether!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
