HI everyone,

At the moment i receive SSD and just became eligible for medicare. I currently have COBRA through my previous job but that will be ending soon. Do i have to get another Insurance along with the Medicare? I called BCBS today as that is the Health insurance i have through COBRA and they told me that once you become eligible for Medicare then that is considered your primary ins. I am a little worried because my Social worker told me yest on the phone that Medicare does not cover Home IV's that i would have to be hospitalized. Now to me thats huge because for the last few yrs i have been doing them at home...... Does anyone know anything about any of this? I would greatly appreciate your help on this matter. I live in New York.

Thanks so much!!

From what I understand home ivs are covered (including meds if ordered for the ivs) as long as an infusion pump is used. It also covers Home Health Care.

Here is the link to Medicare for you to double check in your state. The only thing that MIGHT be in ?? are the meds because I have prescription coverage through my husbands insurance & never needed Medicare for home iv meds. I am not sure how that works.

Medicare's coverage is not comprehensive, so you should not rely on it for all of your health needs. Medicare will now be the first payer of your claims, but for things they don't cover, you should have other coverage.

I see you live in NY. You should look into the adult CF assistance program of NYS

I believe there is a phone number on that - call it and tell them about your situation, and see what they say.
