Keeping the Non CF child enterained

Just thought it would be nice to share what your non-CF child does during the neb/VEST times on a daily basis.

My son(no CF is 9) Morning treatments alot of them can be done after he goes to school, so that's good. When Maggie does do treatments is the am while he's home; he's getting ready for school, playing with the dog, fighting with Maggie<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">, watching TV or playing on the computer.

At night for treatments; he usually does his homework and I can help him while Maggie does treamtents. Math, reading, spelling, soemtimes it gets hard if he has a project to do. They again watch TV together(I'm trying to think of other things besides TV) A fun thing I got yesterday was a HUGE roll of blank newspaper print. We rolled it out and drew all over it; I could see this being really fun to do every night I hope. Post your ideas!!!

Luckily, my son is a VERY good reader as well as student and actually likes learning, so this is helpful at night.

My other 3 have always helped with or during the treatments. As they got older, they tend to play video games with him while he is doing a treatment. He also likes to draw during treatments and the boys got a Mickey learn to draw cartoons that they would do during treatments and then compare their drawings.
Nathan loves when someone new comes while he is doing his vest, especially during the Halloween season, because he likes to scare them with the ghosts sounds he can make with his vest. His brothers help out here by setting the new person up to be scared by our family ghost.
Since there is little that Nathan cannot do during the treatments, they play card games, board games, and such at times as well.

PS: My oldest is considering going for his RT so that he can work with CF kids at the hospital. He loves kids and wants to do something in the medical field and with kids, should be a perfect fit for him.
Since my kids are only 18 months apart and only 5 years from the youngest to oldest, its just what our family does and they don't know any different. We also have tried to make this a family thing so that nobody feels left out and can help out if mom or dad can't for one reason or another.

Are we supposed to keep the other kids entertained while we run the vest, hold the nebs, hold down the CF kid, and keep them from running away???? LOL!! Seriously, I realize your kids are older than mine. I'm way too focused on making sure Alyssa GETS her treatment to also entertain the other two. Mornings I do Alyssa's treatments after the boys are both at school. Evenings, my husband and I split the tasks. One sits with Alyssa and her treatments the other is doing homework with my oldest and cleaning the kitchen up, or doing baths. I eagerly look forward to the time when I can hook Alyssa up and then direct a social activity.

Do your kids enjoy playing cards? Maybe Uno or Crazy 8's would be a fun way to spend the treatment time in the evening. We also like to play board games.
