Lactose intolerant?

So I am going to call my doctor today, but I wanted to see if anyone of you have this problem. The last few weeks I have been feeling very bloated and gurgly in my stomach (I posted about it a few weeks ago, thinking I may be pregnant.) Long story short, I still don't have a postive home pregnancy test, but I am seeing my OB next week, so she said to wait til then and she will test.

But in the last few nights, I have had an additional symptom. After dinner, I had REALLY bad cramps in my left side between my rib cage and my hip bone. It was after eating so it made me think it was the food. I am trying to give up cheese to see if it helps with the bloating and did not eat any cheese yesterday. I already don't drink regular milk, I drink lactose free milk. And so I thought last night a nice chicken pot pie would be good for dinner, no cheese and I thought no milk. But at work (of course) after my dinner break the pains came back! I had to go out to our back room and sit down to feel better. One of the girls gave me some tums and I almost immediately felt better. So this leads me to believe that I have some digestive issue going on.

The problem is I am going to the bathroom fine, regularly. Maybe a little bit of constipation, but I am still going 1-2 times a day, a (TMI) well formed BM. I guess I am just wondering if anyone else with CF has lactose intolerance? How do you survive? I love me some good cheeses and can't bear the thought of giving it up altogether. Do you take lactaid pills? Are thsoe ok for us to take? Or do you just not eat lastose at all?

UPDATE: I spoke with my dr. he think it is a combination of reflux and minor back up. I am going regularly, so its not like I am totally blocked. He said it is typical of CF adults to become much less digestivally (?) able to handle food. So we are upping my prilosec and adding lactulose for a time to see if it helps. He said, he doesn't think I will need to be on it long term, maybe just every so often if needed (yes I have been on it before and was able to go off of it).

Caitlin:

It soulds like you should increase your Creon or split it to half before and half after meals.

I'm lactose intolerant. Hard cheese is lactose free, I use cheddar. Try to stay away from american. CVS has a pill called DAIRY RELIEF, fairly inexpensive if you buy the bottle of 120. Double the dosage on the instructions-there for 3oz milk.

I've been reading a lot lately on inflammation and its relation to diet. It could be gluten, it could be lactose - but diary products often cause problems due to their casseine, so it's more a thing of eliminating or reducing the diary intake at large.
Do check out the gluten!! I've been off gluten for 10 days and bloating is gone! It also has effect on lung inflammation (and therefore PFT) so I'm excited about checking it on June 18th with my doctor.
