Well, answers are right around the corner.

This doctor actually knows his stuff, which was a pleasant surprise. My expectations were so low so that I wouldn't get hurt. Things actually worked out in my favor for once!

He went over all my information from the infertility clinic and the colon removal surgery from years ago. Then he asked, "Why hasn't anyone done a lap on you? That is what you need."

I said to him that no one wanted to touch me due to the removal of my colon.

He wasn't too concerned. He said, "What are they basing your scar tissue between your tubes and ovaries off of?"

I said, "Nothing. They really don't have the slighest clue."

He couldn't believe how BOTH the infertility clinics just wrote me off without even doing a lap to find out for sure what was going on.

He then did a internal pelvic exam. Well, I wasn't having much pain today so I thought I wouldn't feel a thing. Boy was I wrong. When he felt the right side (colon affected side), I was okay. However when he felt the left side, I never jumped off the table each and every time. He then asked, "Does intercourse bother you?" I said, "Yes, I use to be okay with some positions, but now it doesn't seem to matter."

He then told me to get dressed and meet me inside his office. I knew I failed that test so slowly walked into the office to FINALLY hear the truth.

I was informed that I have MUCH MORE than a cyst on my left ovary. Whether it's endo, adhesions, or scar tissue, there is something more wrong. On the right side, he couldn't feel anything but knows it's off too.

A lap is the only way to know for sure what is going on. He also said that I am at an increased risk of 'puncturing the colon' but at this point I don't have a choice...The birth control pill wouldn't even work for me at this point either. It would dissolve the cyst but do nothing for whatever else is going on. My last ultrasound was August 2007 which was too long ago.

So I have surgery setup for May 28th. I am nervous, but I don't have a choice. The chance of me wearing a bag the rest of my life is 1 out of 1,000. However, the chance of punctured colon is higher.

HE WILL NOT BE GOING ABOVE MY BELLY BUTTON EITHER. THE INCISION WILL BE BY MY SPLEEN ON THE LEFT SIDE TO ENSURE WHERE THE SCAR TISSUE IS BELOW TO AVOID RISKING ANYTHING! IT WON'T BE THE 'AVERAGE SURGERY'.

I am so nervous...What should I expect afterwards? Any advice?

I'm actually really excited for you to have surgery LOL! I'm so glad you found a doctor who wants to be proactive. I know you're nervous but this is what you wanted, right? I have no advice for you since I've never had a lap but I'm sure you'll do just fine. Now I just have to wait till after your surgery to hear the latest news. I still have hope for you to conceive w/o IVF.

Hey Girl,

Yes, this is really the ONLY shot I had to help increase my fertility. The real question is will it be enough??? That is the million dollar question. For some, it is. For others, it's not. I believe it wasn't for Tara who ended up having IVF. Usually if you don't get pregnant within 6 months, you won't.

Let's put it this way. I can't lose. If nothing else, the pain will be close to gone, and things will be more 'normal'. If it helps with my fertility, that's a BONUS!!! Without the surgery, my chance of pregnancy was around 1%. You can't get much lower than that!!!

Edited to Add: I have to be at the hospital at 8:15 am! It will be done super early. I will be coming home immediately, unless something happens. God forbid. I should be able to post about it when I get home. Also, my blog will be opened by then. I'm constructing it now and have been for a few days.
