Antibiotics vary according to the sensitivities of the organisms they are attempting to fight, age of the patient, allergies.
Generally, TOBI is 30 days on, 30 days off. Oral antibiots are generally given for two to three weeks, but I have been on them for up to eight months.

Do you have a question about a specific infection or med?

This is the original poster--The first time I cultured pseudomonas was a year and a half ago and I was 17 anyway, at that time it was three straight months of Tobi and Cipro. I was having some bad side effects from both of the meds so I couldnt complete the 3 month treatment. So my doctor had me stop and waited a week then culture and then it was negative but then at a month another culture and it was postive. Then I tried Tobi again and had the same only worse side effects. So then I went to three months of Colistin and Levequin however after three months of that I still cultured pseudomonas. Then I was on a two course of IV antibiotics and then I had no psuedomonas in my cultures for about six months. Now it is being recommended that I do two months of Colistin and Levequin. I also had a bronc at the same time as the IV antibiotics and the results showed no pseudomonas only aspergillas (mold) at I was told that could have been caused by using alot of antibiotics. So I am trying to be cautious not to overdo with treatment and not to underdo. It is interesting to see what others do for treatments and maintaince.

What you should also realize, is that pseudo will never go away. Sometimes you will culture it, sometimes you won't. But it was ALWAYS be there. Pseudo cannot be eradicated. I say use whatever works for you. Sometimes the doc puts me on Colymycin and Levequin, sometimes its TOBI and Cipro. It all depends on what combo's work best for you.

Liz, What is the deciding factor for you to go on inhaled antibiotics and or cipro - levequin? Low pfts, increased cough? I am really needing to find out how others deal with this because when I do culture pseudomonas my doctor wants me to do several months of antibiotics even if I am feeling fine and my pfts are within my normal range. I am also looking into inhaled steriods vs. oral alternate prednisone. Do you have any thoughts on that subject.
