Lexi's sick

My little Lexi is still coughing. Today completes 4 weeks that she has been on Iv Vanc and Ceftazadime. She had a bronch on June 5th that showed some Staph and a lot of Pseudomonas. Her PFT's were the best they had ever been at her check up last Tues. I just don't understand what is going on. She has a persistant wet cough that has developed over the last year and b/c of her cultures, they decided to be aggressive and do IV's before she starts school in the fall. Her cough was much worse after her bronch which they said was common, but her cough has only slightly gotten better. She still coughs a lot in the mornings and last night coughed a lot through the night. They have given her an extra week on the antibiotics because of this cough, but it has not gotten any better. Infact her cough now is worse than it was before her bronch. What is up.

Do you think it is possible that the broch kicked up some of the bacteria? Are they sure she's on the right abx? I'm not sure what is up, but I can understand your annoyance with it all. I hope they figure this out. If her baseline has always been no cough and she's still dealing with increased cough -- I'd be concerned as well.

Hey Melissa,, It sounds like things are tough right now...

I noticed you have 2 postings about your little one. It's alot easier to understand wants going on with your little one if you just go back to your original post (if it's about the same problems) and just hit the reply to topic button and do a FU.... Believe me I'm no computer genious,,but that's been easier for me to keep up with my own things (just a suggestion). I sure there are others who know more than me about the internet stuff.

I don't know how to help you on some things about Lexi. I'm confused on why she is still not in the hospital. Why would they send a 5yr old home on IV antibiotics?? Makailyn has had long stays in the hospital,, but has of yet never been sent home on "IV" antibiotics,,,, I would probly have a heart attack,,,I know how to do alot of stuff that's for sure....But I'm not ready to do home IV's...
You said she had a bronch done,,,so I would assume the bacteria is in her lungs...Just write down all your questions,,, and call the clinic everyday if you need answers...A CF accredited Clinic should have no problems in answering them for you....
PLEASE KEEP US UP TO DATE on her health, and hoe you are doing....
My heart goes out to you,,, hang in there !!!!<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

What about reflux? Has she had a scope and/or probe to look for that? We didn't think my daughter had reflux when they probe and scope she had a severe case. She had a nissan fundoplication. It has seemed to help a lot with her night time coughing since she got it two years ago. Also, both of my kids have been home twice on IV's, I can't tell you how wonderful it is in comparison to being in the hospital.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 7 and Jack, 5 both with cf, Grant, five months both with cf
