Hey everyone..,
I wanted to take a minute to update everyone on this site on how I'm doing 4 months post TX.
Last week I had my latest check up at Columbia. It was pouring rain so I sprinted from the parking garage to the building. Then sprinted from building to building and eventually sprinted back to the parking garage. For anyone who's been there, it's a big hill and at no time was I even winded. I was soaked but I didn't care.
I was alive!
As for my actual check up, my FEV1 was 116% and my X-ray looked perfect. My side effects are just about gone. If I stop and pay attention, I may notice a slight shake to my hands or something, but nothing major. My body weight has gone from the low 120's when I was discharged to 160 lbs. today. I feel strong and I'm still planning to run in the NYC marathon with Dr. Sonnet in November.
I just ran 6 miles and other than my legs burning a little, it wasn't too bad.
I'm not posting this to brag....far from it. I'm posting this because I still remember having an FEV1 of 21%, stopping on the stairs twice every time I tried, unable to pick up my little boy, unable to talk without getting winded.
I still remember all that. And I remember going through my dry runs...I was scared, angry, nervous, and unsure how I would be post TX.
I wished 4 months ago that I could've read a post like this. Someone who is doing amazing post TX. I know there are a lot of horror stories post TX...but I've been blessed and it's all been better than I could've ever expected.
The power of positive thinking!!!
I truly believe I'm feeling this good today because:
1. Columbia rocks
2. Dr. Sonnet is amazing.
3. I exercised everyday pre-TX AND post TX. Didn't matter what it was...as long as it was something. Walking at 1mph, or lifting 5 pounds 10 times...it doesn't matter. As long as it's all you got.
4. My wife who took care of me emotionally.
5. And most of all...my faith.
