My 5 year old is on oral Linezolid pills for MRSA treatment. After two weeks, he is totally moody and his teeth have all started turning brown!! Has anyone had this? We stopped the drug per the CF center and are taking him to the dentist tomorrow. Ughh..always something! Thanks!

Hi Meghan,
Maggie had been on Zyvox quite a bit a few years ago. Her back molars are discolored brown as well. Her bottom front adult teeth look white and she recently lost her front upper baby teeth. One adult tooth in front has come in, the bottom of it is not as white as the rest but at least it's not brown; I am concerned as well; just hoping the teeth that are more noticeable are fairly white...I wasn't sure which med caused the problem but I assumed it was an antibiotic. I do not recall if Maggie was moody on Zyvox; she always gets diahrea when she's on it and nausea. I always double up on her culturelle when she's on antibiotics. She was last on Zyvox; last March I think..Hope Aiden is feeling better!

I took zyvox for approximately 4-5 months (beginning of August 07-end December 07) and never noticed browning of my teeth. I think back then I remember yellowing, but I was on Biaxin at the same time and I believe that had a side effect of yellowing of the teeth.

I personally hate zyvox, after those 4-5 months (for the long term m. abscessus treatment) I started developing perephral neuropathy (wow!), it started out relatively mild and I was never told about this side effect from my then ped doctor... I took the med I think another 2 weeks after starting with the symptoms... I found on the zyvox site that the neuropathy was a side effect (if on zyvox 21+ days). I had to call my doctor and tell her I found out what was going on b/c she was ahem stupid ahem busy....

the pharmacist said it would take 4-7 weeks for the stuff to be out of my system enough for the neuropathy to go away... it was about 7+ weeks and it was pure misery.... got worse every day to the point I couldnt sleep, I couldnt walk, couldnt think. I had to dip my feet in the tub full of the coldest water with ice in it in order to numb my feet enough to not feel the burning, and the prickling.

Finally the LAST week, my doctor called in an order of tramadol a pain med to help with it and it did...

anyways, after that episode it was the "last straw" for my ped doctor... thinking about it now I want to punch her in the face haha... at the time I thought I was being harsh but having the doctors I have now, there was no reason for her lack of interest in my situation and the fact it took 7 weeks to get a pain medicine when she should have gotten one in the first day.

sorry so long, but had to tell you to be careful with the zyvox if on it for over 21 days....

oh, that sounds so bad....

what I mean is, if your child says anything, I personally would call the doc immediately... my problem I know lies in the fact I kept taking zyvox after the side effect was started.

I dont think a lot of people are on it though for 4 months unless have a mycobacterium infection (which is known to have long periods of constant treatment)
