Haven't posted any true issues on the site, but I finally have one.
In standard bloodwork my son's ALT and AST (liver enzymes) came back elevated, both in May and in an August re-check. All other LFTs were well within the normal range. A liver ultrasound was ordered (performed Monday) and came back 'normal'. Our CF Team said that is good news and has fielded questions to our GI specialist as to whether interventions are necessary based on the results. We're eagerly (and nervously) awaiting their input.
My questions are: has anyone else had ALT and AST come back elevated, but had a normal liver ultrasound? If so, what determinations were made regarding cause, follow-up, treatment, etc? I realize that all CF cases are unique, but I would also like to know what could be on the table here. I realize after pouring through medical research that there may be a wide array of causes, and no cause is identified in a small number of cases.
Thanks.
