I had a '97 honda civic coupe for 11 years...I loved it! Got it when it was a couple old, so I was able to get it w/ sunroof, etc. I would really recommend Honda...very reliable, and only need routine maitnenance; mine haven't had any problems.

I purchased an 08 Accord sedan last year (paid it off a few months ago...w00t!) and I love it!

Enjoy car shoppping...SO much fun!! Let us know what you end up with!

it all depends on what you're wanting in a car, if you ask my parents, a good "first car" for someone would be something like they got me, my 15 year old pickup, but if i were choosing, I would definately pick something like a civic or an accord. Hondas are known for lasting forever with minimum repairs, I've driven a couple different civics, they don't have any signifigant blind spots and can be pretty fun to drive but are small enough that anyone can handle them. The accord is basically the same just has a little more "meat" to it, a slightly bigger engine is available and a little more room for passengers, both get good gas milage so if you have to buy your own gas it won't be too much of a burden, and they're not very expensive to insure. Especially with the civic, yo ucan find plenty of them in the "first car" price range

Definitely Honda, Toyota or Nissan. My first car was a 1988 Honda Prelude, which also happened to be my sisters first car, haha I get all the hand-me-downs. but Honda is a safe bet. I currently have a Nissan - LOVE IT! It's also a really great reliable care, only needing routine maintenance every now and then (oil changes, I just had brakes pads replaced for the first time -- it's a 6 year old car) and it drives wonderfully. Honda's might be more affordable along with toyotas. But those are the 3 companies my parents limit me to. PS word of the wise don't get a chevy of any kind. My boyfriend's family was into chevy's and they were impressed with them at first but after about 2 years they all started to fall apart and had SO many problems, and were just money draining.

I will tell you that I did have a '07 honda civic for a while. 4 door. And I have to say I disagree with roberts321 saying they don't have significant blind spots. I always had a hard time with turns due to the severity of curve of the windshield's side bar that connects the windshield to the window. I always felt very uncomfortable turning in that vehicle. So whatever Car you end up getting, make sure you do a thorough test drive with it, turning, backing up, highway driving, etc.

But most of all have fun finding a car!! =)
