Losing Weight After Baby

I was back at my normal after having my son. Then I went on the deppo shot and gained 25 lbs. Now I know that most cf people would be jumping for joy but is there a point where a cf person can be overweight? Im not saying im overweight but not happy with the 25 lbs I have gained in 6 months. Is there anyone out there that has gained weight after a baby for any reason and is trying to lose it. I feel bad asking this because I know most cf people have weight gaining issues but after having nicolas I am on the other side of this now.

Hi Alisha,

I understand completely!

I was slightly overweight prior to getting pregnant (at 184 lbs), but I knew that was fine since it's good to have a little extra weight on us sometimes. I got up to 196 lbs during my pregnancy. Right after I gave birth, I lost almost 30 lbs and was down to 167 lbs.

Now, 2.5 years after giving birth, I am up to a whopping 186 lbs. I seem to be putting on even more lately, but I think it's due to my inactivity. I'm so darn busy with the kids, working, housework, etc, that I just don't have a lot of time for my team sports. I definitely keep active though with the kids, so I'm hoping that's enough to keep my weight steady. I've come down with a couple stomach bugs in the past year, so having the extra weight has been a blessing for those instances. But overall, I think I would benefit from losing a little weight.

We can definitely become overweight, so we do have to watch ourselves. And it's definitely harder to lose the weight once we have kids (at least from my experience). But overall, I think it's a good idea to have some extra weight, just not too much.

My body was this way before I had my baby. For some reason after I had her, my metabolism shot up and now I can either eat pretty much whatever I want and maintain my weight, or I have to make sure I am getting enough in.
Before babies though, I had to stick to 1500-1700 cals a day if I wanted to lose a few lbs. I was never overweight. But at 5'3 I was around 128-130, a size 8) Like I said, not at all overweight, but for summer time bathing suits and all that, it seemed like I always wanted to lose a couple lbs and be a little more lean. I guess I used to notice that if I didn't watch what I ate, I'd gain pounds instantly and shoot up 5 lbs without even blinking. I wasn't a serial dieter, but when I wanted to lose a few I'd keep a food diary and calorie count. Now I also calorie count, but its for the opposite reason! How babies change your life!
My other observation was that when I had more lbs on me, I was definitely healthier. My goal for after this baby is to always have an extra 5 lbs minimum on me. I just don't care much about vanity anymore. Anyway, they have Spanx now!!

I know how you feel. For me-I tried every exercise and diet out there. In the end, good old calorie counting is the only thing that worked. Just make being healthy your #1.

I gained 40 lbs during my pregnancy and wanted to lose nearly all of it so I wouldn't have to buy a new wardrobe! (Before I was PG I weighed 125-130 at 5'4.5") I lost about 25 lbs the first two weeks postpartum, and breastfeeding and working out helped with a few more pounds, but, at one point the weight just stopped coming off, so I decided to do Weight Watchers and I lost the rest (10 lbs) in about two months. Oh course, I gained some of it back over the holidays, but I can still button my jeans, so I'm not sweating it

I work in a GYN office and have many patients who complain about their weight gain on Depo. For those who are bothered by it, the weight usually comes right off when they switch to another birth control.

It's different for everyone - some do lose it fairly quickly, but it does take others a while longer (months to a year.) Even though you've discontinued the shot, the hormones remain in your system for quite a while. But as time passes, the amount of hormones decreases and you should notice the side effects lessen. I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but it may take some time, dietary changes, and increased exercise :\
