LUNG INFLAMMATION

Hi All!!

I need some of your wisdom, please. 1 week ago today I finished IV antibiotics, the first ones I've ever done along w/ my first hospitalization. I expected to feel 110% better, but definately not there yet. My PFT's are up a few % points to 66%. But I am still having chest tightness. You know, you feel like you need to take a deep breath but your lungs just won't expand enough. My cough is no longer productive but is now just a dry tickly hacking cough. My doctor thinks it's just lung inflammation and I trust his judgement. He said he doesn't like to give prednisone b/c of the adverse side effects, and says I will just have to work through it. It will take a long time but will eventually go away. I already take Advair, Combivent, and Spiriva. Any suggestions to help the process along?

Gratefully,

When you feel like that take a puff of Combivent. My doc when he was looking at my pfts present and past showed a little azma when I inhale after blowing my lungs out and he suggested that if I was to feel conjested or something to take a puff of combivent, so now once in awhile Ill do that and I think it helps a little. I would ask of course ask and make sure its okay with your doc first though before doing that, cause everyone is different.

Jessi, how much ibuprofen do you take when you feel tight?

Becca,

What dose of Advair are you on?

Over the years, the best drug that helped me was ibuprofen over time. I can't take it any more because of bleeding. But it takes time to kick in and reduce inflammation. And you have to get the correct dose.
