Magnesium Level

I've been doing more research on the role of magnesium and preventing bacterial growth. So I decided to get my magnesium level tested yesterday. Results came back today. It's at 1.9. Apparenly the range should be between 1.5 and 2.5.

Has anyone ever had their ranges tested? I'm assuming most have when they've been on IV Tobra.

What about outpatient? Let me know, I'd be curious to hear what others have found <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hey Amy, I've only been aware of them checking magnesium levels when my kidneys were acting up. Once everything gots under control, I don't think they checked it again. Although I would assume they check all levels like magnesium, etc at our annuals. Mine have never been an issue outside of kidney trouble.

Rao does not check magnesium levels at our annuals - ask Debbie next time you're in.

If you do a pub med search on magnesium and PA and CF you'll be really suprised at what you find!

I have my mag levels drawn everytime i have blood work. Post transplant one of the drugs we take deplete mag from our bodies. Also if we take this drug with mag the drug is also reduced in the serum level. so I take my minerals many hours a part from my drugs and take them with food.

I hear that mag helps blood gluocose, helps the muscles and joints. If I get crazed or cramped up, take my mag with calcium. It is great for sleep too. Many sleep aids contain magnesium. I rather take my cal/mag instead of sleep aids. Thankfully I never need sleep aids.
I take a separate vit D too with my other minerals.

I remember the day of my second transplant, I felt a mild cramp and told them to check my mag level and I was right. We need mag to keep our heart functioning well. People with heart problems take magnesium. We need our minerals

As Risa said, post transplant patients can suffer from lack of Mag due to meds. I think I was about .70 at one stage. They kept telling me to try and eat chocolate and things to get it up (as I was already on infusions and tablets). I didn't realise the side effects of such low levels! Ooops!

Anyway, last time I asked, it was 1.8. I don't take any more supplements for mag anymore. I eat chocolate and *touch wood* I seem to be fine! Good point on raising it though! x

My Mag level is almost always low when I am in the hospital,,, I always get a Mag IV bolus... Level goes back up, stays up for a little while then drops..
