Maybe an odd question ...

The past few weeks to a month I have been losing more hair than usual. I have naturally curly hair, so I comb my hair very little. I tend to comb it when I get out of the shower - but do not mess with it the rest of the day unless I am attempting to pull it back in a ponytail. I would maybe lose a few strands here or there but nothing major. The past few weeks have been different though. I am losing about 4-5 times the amount of hair I usually lose.

I am just wondering if there is a possible cause for this ... the only other time I have experienced this kind of hair loss is when I am on steroids (prednisone) which I am not taking at the present time.

Is it possible that changing shampoos could cause this because I have in fact changed shampoos recently.

I don't know any opinions would be great. Luckily I have thick hair so I am not at risk for going bald any time soon it is just bothersome to me that I am losing this much hair each day.

Thanks
Lindsey

I have developed anxiety attacks over the past few months (maybe 1 -1.5 months). I didn't even think of that as a trigger but I suppose it is definitely possible.

When I am stressed I lose more
hair than normal. So that very well could be the culprit. Also I
would ask your Dr to do a blood test to see if you are low on
vitamins. Just a thought.

I guess this is a good one for me!!!!! Yes, stress is a major factor. Shampoo has nothing to do with it. Also a change in the seasons and your health. Any other Hair questions just ask!!!!!!!!!

I have naturally wavy hair - but lately I've kept it short. One of the reasons for this, is because when my hair is long, it gets pretty wavy, and I notice that I tend to lose a lot of it down the shower drain. I'm not sure what caused the hair loss, but now that I have short hair I don't notice any hair lose (although that just may be because my hair is too short to notice - who knows). It could very well be stress, or maybe you are on a new med or something to that effect?

ooo!! i know exactly how you feel! i dont know whats causing mine either- but you pointed out prednisone and im just coming off of that afterlike 4 months.... so maybe mine will get better? i never thought my hair loss was due to stress but maybe yours is. i mentioned it to my endo doctor and she said it could be thyroid related becasue i was also having very dry skin. maybe check that out?

I experience hair loss with stress too. However, I have also had alopecia areata in the past and that made me lose chunks of hair to the point that I needed a hairpiece to fill it in.

Vitamin deficiency is likely the main cause--have you dropped much weight lately? Hair loses it's fullness and luster when we're malnourished. Stress is the next likely culprit. Changing shampoos could be causing it too. I noticed that the stuff that is a shampoo + conditioner in one step makes my hair thin out.

I also thought you could lose your hair if you don't eat a lot of red meat. Maybe I am crazy but I think my doctor told me that and then I started eating more red meat and it stopped.

My hair dresser told me that every few years you'll go through a period where you seem to lose tons of hair for a while. Take your vitamins and maybe switch back to your old shampoo. Olive oil is good for your hair too.
