Medicare can be so confusing! I have been on Medicare for over 3 years now, it is also my primary ins. I have parts A and B (part A covers hospitalization, part B doctor's visits, DME,labs, etc..). I opted to have a supplemental Medigap insurance to cover the 20% that medicare does not (Medicare pays 80%...if you have huge expenses, make sure the other 20% is covered!).
Yes, there are advantage plans in medicare, they are like HMO's I believe. I chose not to stick with a HMO because my docs are spread over 3 states! Check out medicare.gov to look at all of the options.
I also have Part D, which is for medication through Humana. (Some advantage plans work part D into their packages).
It took quite a bit of soul searching to find the right plan for me...personally, I did not want to be tied down to a HMO type of plan...I wanted the freedom to go to any doc as long as they took Medicare.
When you start your search, it will be overwhelming at first...depending on what state you live in, there will be many different choices, all with their own premiums etc. The medicare site should be able to help guide you through this too.
I hope this helps...hugs, Jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
