What medications are you taking? I take advair, albuterol, and pulmozyne. I am 7 weeks pregnant and don't see my CF doctor for another week.
Is anyone else taking these?

the way to find out if you can take these meds is to look at their package inserts. Ask your pharmacist for them (pick them up from the pharmacy or have them fax it to you) or look it up online. www.pulmozyme.com or www.advair.com they will give a pregnancy category and answer your question right away!

I am in the process of planning to try to get pregnant. What you stay on/get off will depend on your health level since a healthy mom is important in the equation. I see a high risk OBGYN (Perinatologist) and they and my CF doc. aren't taking me off anything:

I take:
Tobi
Pulmozyme
Duoneb (albuterol)
Zyrtec
SIngulair
Advair
Prenatal Vit. (Get on this ASAP if you aren't already)
Zithromax
Vit. K
Hypertonic Saline
acidophilus
Ultrase MT20

Someone else on this site has been taken off all antibiotics. Her FEV1 is 75% while mine is 61%. What is yours?

I'm in the same boat as Lauren-trying. I've seen a high-risk OBGYN and my cf doc for planning my pregnancy. The doctor explained the risk/benefit situation with cf and meds. Like Lauren said, a healthy mom, healthy baby. She did feel that I didn't need some meds I was on, though. I switched from Flonase to Rhinocort, and I try to rely more on Pulmicort than Albuterol for opening my airways. I also stopped TOBI. Now, there is no proven fact that says TOBI is dangerous-but since it is in the tobra family I stopped it, on the basis that there isn't enough research that it is safe. This is really a personal opinion, b/c there are women that have used it during pregnancy. Also I wanted to stress that the main reason my doc stopped all my antibiotics is to ensure I could go 9 months without them safely, and maintain my lung function-so the reason is more of an extra "insurance" policy, really testing my body before I'm pregnant to figure out how my body will deal with it.
But, everyone is different. What my doc decided for me won't work for everyone.

The best plan is to have a good team of docs and have them talk to you about all your meds, and come up with a pregnancy plan for you.

CONGRATS on your pregnancy! Hope you feel good!

DUH! I didn't really answer what you posted-sorry, knock me out please, I'm really tired.

I am on Pulmozyme, my docs all said it is very safe for pregnancy. My doc took me off Advair, and switched me to Pulmicort turbohaler. I do albuterol, like I said, but the docs told me to favor pulmicort instead and only use albuterol if I really need it-I guess b/c the pulmicort doesn't make your heart race like albuterol does. But again, everyone's needs are different.

I also hear albuterol can be a risk of a cleft lip- but only from one person and it was not my doctor.

I will have to check into that-

My FEV 1 is in the low 50's to high 50's. I am 31 years old.

I am on albuterol, advair, and enzymes. Albuterol given at extrememly high doses to lab rats did produce a cleft palate, but my doc said that he has never seen that in all of his Cf and asthma patients. I am pretty sure I used albuterol with my son as well. I am also pretty sure from the ultrasound that this baby doesn't have a cleft palate, though I did try to really tone down the inhalers for the first 14 weeks - but I found i needed them more than not. Albutereol is listed in the "yellow light" category for pregnancy as if the need outweighs the risk it can be taken. I am not sure about advair. I don't use anythihg else, but I hope this helps. Also, in my two pregnancies, I did have to take a few antibiotics - zithromax, augmentin, and cephlex. Good luck!
