UPDATE 9/23
JUST GOT OFF PHONE TO MEL--SHE'S DOING BETTER. STILL HAS FEVERS, BUT IS FEELING BETTER--I THINK JEANNE AND GRAVES WERE GOOD MEDICINE! I COULD TELL BY THE SOUND OF HER VOICE THAT SHE WAS FEELING BETTER. SHE IS ON PRANDIN, WHICH IS A NEW DIABETIC DRUG, SO WE WILL SEE IF THIS WORKS FOR HER. SHE IS STILL A LITTLE WEAK FROM THE FEVERS, BUT WITH THIS LITTLE IMPROVEMENT, NOW SH EIS STARTING TO FEEL "ANTSY". SO I AM HAPPY TO SAY THAT THIS IS A GOOD REPORT!
UPDATE 9/21
IT'S OFFICIAL, MEL HAS DIABETES. SHE HAS BEEN DOING FASTING GLUCOSE TESTS TODAY, AND THEY HAVE OFFICIALLY GIVEN THE DIAGNOSIS. SHE ALSO HAS PNUEMONIA. THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO TREAT THE DIABETES ORALLY, NOT WITH INSULIN, FOR THE TIME BEING. LET''S HOPE THAT WORKS OUT. THIS MIGHT EXPLAIN WHY SHE HAS BEEN SO TIRED LATELY. PLEASE SEND CARDS--YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE IN THERE--SEND HER OUR LOVE!
UPDATE: 9/20
MEL CHANGED ROOMS, IS IN ROOM 831, BUT ANYTHING MAILED TO OLD ROOM WILL REACH HER 'CAUSE IS ON 8TH FLOOR, AND SHE SAYS "EVERYONE KNOWS HER NAME THERE"!! HAHA ! SHE STILL HAS FEVERS, SO THAT'S A DRAG, SLEEPS A LOT, AND MISSES US ALL.
Here's Mel's address to send cards and well-wishes:
Mel Smith
St. Vincent Hospital
170 West 12th St.
NY, NY 10011
Rm 831, Coleman "8" Bldg
For those who don't know, she is in the hospital, and had her PICC placed yesterday, and today is on two different antibiotics. By the xray, they have discovered a big, old plug, and are now working at getting it up and out of there! She has CPT 3x a day, so hopefully, they will get it out! Her POX on 2L is only 91, but she says she has a stuffy nose, and is still having fevers. So I hope these antibiotics kick whatever is "bugging" her! I sure miss her!
GET WELL SOON, BABE!
