Mic-key problems

I've had my mic-key for around 4-5 years and never had any problems with it. A few days ago I woke up and my feeding tube was hurting. I changed the water in the balloon thinking it was low and that was why it was hurting, it didn't work. The next day it was hurting more, I changed the mic-key to see if that was the problem. When I change my mic-key I clean the site area with a soft cloth that's damp and when I cleaned the area it was bloody which has never happened, I thought that maybe it was just a little irritated. I've had the new mic-key in for about 2 days and the site still really hurts. I cant touch or clean around the mic-key and it's draining some clear liquid with a little bit of blood. I've been sick lately so I don't know if that bothered the inside of the site and one of the antibiotics I was on was giving me GI problems.
Sorry this is such a long post

It sounds like it might be growing granulation tissue. It comes from inside the stoma and starts by looking irritated, red and oozing. My son had it a few years ago.

Have a doctor look at it- it is easy to fix with the right meds. If the tissue continues to grow out or stays irritated, they can burn it with an acid stick. It sounds bad, but it really isn't.

Good luck.

If you have granulation tissue, Tea Tree Oil does an excellent job of getting rid of it for a long time. I would definately get you stoma site cultured just to make sure you do not have some type of skin infection. You might also need to increase the size of your button. What you describe can happen when the stoma length is too short. Good luck to you.

my daughter had the same problem a while back....it seemed the acid in her belly was irritating the hold and caused it to bleed. the doc recommended a paste made from 2 parts desitin diaper rash creme and 1 part liquid acid reducer like mylanta. then rub it around the button. if this is the problem for you it will help. good luck!
