have you cut out or ruduced the dairy product that you eat? I have heard not eating milk will slow mucous production.

My old CF friend (who is now dead) pretty much gave up milk due to it's high mucous content. Some stuff just must have milk with it, like a warm, fresh bluberry muffin smothered in sweet cream butter, or a hershey symphony bar...Sorry, if it took a year off my life every time I drank some milk, i'd maybe consider not drinking it, but no way.

I enjoy my dairy too much to give it up at this point. Nothing like a cold glass of milk with oreos for a snack, a yogurt with fruit or a tons of melted mozzarella on chicken parmasian. It would have to be majorly serious issues for me to give it up & immediate problems. Right or wrong? Dont know!

I LOVE dairy and would not give it up . It is too useful a product for keeping my weight in good standing. When i lose some weight after being sick, i start drinking whole milk with dinner and at bedtime and it always helps me gain . I am a cheese - a - holic and LOVE to just sit and eat cheese. I try to include a piece of extra sharp cheese with my meals ( and snacks) to help pack in more protein and fat. The dairy and mucus contributing factor is so controversal, and there are no definite answers if there is any credibility to it. I never noticed a difference from when i did eat a lot of it, to where i didnt eat any . Maybe its different from person to person, but dairy is a great way to put on some pounds. Keep in mind.... thats why people who are dieting have to stay away from dairy, it adds weight.... We need those weight addition benefits ( for those who can tolerate dairy).

Dairy causing more mucus is a myth, in general populations anyway. Now a dairy allergy causing more mucus is not a myth...some people have just a slight allergy that they dont notice anything but a little bit more mucus. Other have a little more allergy to where it causes stomach problems as well, and of course you have those that are severily allergic and can not consume even the tiniest ammount or it can cause them serious problems.
Milk can cause a feeling of thicker mucus, but does not cause it. Its because milk coats the throat, mucus thats around the throat and make that harder to cough up....but it doesnt cause all the mucus in the lungs to be thicker or more abundant.
I will say this dairy products react in ever person differently...so for one person it may make them feel worse and may make their mucus thicker while another person has no problem with it whatso ever. The question is really this are you willing to cut out dairy products...does dairy products make you feel any worse or any better. This is one of those topics even though it may seem like an easy question it really isnt. We can tell you our experiences with it, you can take what you learn and try to cut out dairy...if cutting dairy helps you then by all means cut dairy. One warning though if you have trouble gaining weight and want to try and cut dairy, find a good caloric substitute or dont cut out all dairy all together. Dairy is a good and healthy source of protiens and calories that some of us desperatly need. I say if you want to try this cut out milk first and reduce the intake of cheese...but dont completly have it all gone, that is if you need help gaining weight...if you dont have a weight problem cut it all out if you like. Also some people have a problem just cutting things out completly they tend to "cheat" here and there and then bam what they cut out is completly back. So allow your self one dairy item every now and then..like once a week...it should help cut the craving for whatever it is your craving.

I can feel mucous in my throat after i drink milk. It's really strange that i don't feel that with other dairy products, like chocolatemilk or yoghurt. But sometimes i do with applejuice..<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0"> Does anybody else have that? I don't drink milk cause i don't really like that but i do drink applejuice. Especially when it's really warm weather.

I have that feeling with apple juice. Now that I think about it I would have to pay attention to the brand & if its pasturized/unpasturized when it happens. It doesnt seem to happen all the time so I will take notice next time! I only have a similiar problem with milk if its warm. No problem if its nice & cold.

I do notice with dairy specifically milk, that I am so much more congested.. but recently I became lactose intolerant.. and also I was malabsorbing the dairy products...that was a pain in the you know what.....

I am now taking in addition to my regular Cf enzymes, I am taking lactase enzymes.. which are truly amazing.... I can now drink milk without any pain what so ever... but because it does make me more congested..esp in my sinuses I still limit it.. to when I am really craving it.....

I dont feel a difference, but I also have never stopped it to see a difference. I like it too much to try. I guess any reactions I might have are not serious enough to be a huge deal for me. Evidently for some the problems are great enough that they notice it no questions asked. I would stick with what works for you & you like!

Dairy makes up about 75% of my diet, including cottage cheese and milk. I wouldn't give it up for the world. I've heard that it causes more mucus, but I don't buy it. Sometimes I get that thick, mucus-like feeling in my throat, but that's only because the milk itself is thick. I don't think it really causes more mucus to be produced.

I drink nearly a gallon of milke a day. I use different brands and flavors of instant breakfast to alleviate boredom. Sometimes Quik, and of course just a good ole' plain tall cold glass. I have never had any difficulty. It is my main liquid intake and keeps me at 170 lbs.
