Minty Fresh Breath

After I cough up something and get rid of it there still feels like there is a sickening mucus taste in my mouth; although, i can handul that. I'm just worried about the little lady. I mean can you taste the difference in a CFr when you kiss them as compared to a "normal" person without that mucus film. Aside from constant gum chewing, tic tacs, and brushing ur teeth and what not....anyone have any reccomendations to cut down on the mucus film?

I use to experience the same thing till i drank more water. General fluids were ok, but lots more consumption of water did the trick for me. My wife says that my kisses never are foul tasting. She says my breath is always nice. I dont' necessairly agree, as sometimes I do taste or have a mucus flavor in my mouth/breath. I think the odor is based on the individual, but the mucus film in the mouth is dehydrations, at least in my case.

As a person kissing a CFer, I have to honestly tell you that sometimes it is there-especially right after a coughing attack. But, does anybody ALWAYS have wonderful breath? Absolutely not, we all have "bad" breath or coffee breath or garlic breath or somehting along those lines. It was not something I noticed when my husband and I were dating, maybe because he was always chewing gum, using mouthwash...Maybe it's because we've been together forever and were more comfortable so it's gotten a little lax (on my part as well) but I don't think much of it. It's not a constant taste, but I do notice it if I kiss him right after a coughing attack where he brings up mucous.

Hope this helps answer you question

I know that I have a "halitosis" problem and much of it is attributed to mucus production & sometimes feeling that it's there in the back of my throat. I try to brush more & ALWAYS have gum on hand, and just hope & pray that that does the trick
I don't know how to cut down on the mucus film, sorry. Hopefully someone else can help.

Is it halotosis, or 'pseudomonas breath'. If you sniff your mucus and you are a pseudomonas culturer, you'll notice it has a slightly sweet smell. Sometimes that smell transfers to my breath. I chew gum a lot, and drink water on my own (not just because of bad breath)

I just asked Mike. He says he can't taste a difference on me. But he's also been with me for almost two years. So maybe he just doesn't remember. Either way, he says it's generally not offensive.

I have always found my mouth to be pretty gross. My teeth have always been yellow, and my tongue has always been coated. I brush my teeth and my tongue (I do it less now because I got discouraged after trying for years and getting nowhere... 5 minutes after I brushed, it would taste and smell the same as it did before), but it gets me nowhere. I feel like my mouth always tastes like mucus, and as someone else compared recently, it kind of tastes like butter. I have tried everything: gum, those little mint strips, mouth drops, tic tacs, toothpaste, mouthwash, whitening strips and polish... and none of it has ever worked for me. I kind of gave up. Of course, I'm not trying to win anyone new, so it's not really that important to me. *shrug*
All I try to do is make sure my breath isn't so offensive that you can smell it coming off of me. As far as tasting me in kisses... I gave up caring.

ON the subject..kind of anyway...

I sometimes get a coating on my tongue. This only started maybe 1-2 years ago. I brush my tongue, drink lots of water, use listerine or something and it's better. However, I tried the Nystatin crap, the orange stuff. I can deal with a lot of stuff, but somehow that stuff, especially in the morning makes me want to hurl. I can take mucamyst ( I never get the spelling right ) better than I can take the orange stuff.

It happens more frequently when I use my mouth piece vs the mask. I try to switch it up for I don't get polyps, however I feel the mouth piece works better for my lungs.

any suggestions besides that orange crap..?

on the original subject, my partner isn't bothered like if I just cough. I usually am pretty aware and drink water or something.

My guy Kevin never notices a difference. Either I don't smell after getting something up or he's just oblivious! I remmeber he told me when he first kissed me though how salty I tasted, lol. He says he doesn't tatse it anymore though because he is so used to it.
