Mobilaire compressor switch broke?

We've had our Mobilaire compressor for nebs for 4 years. This morning it would not shut off. The switch on the back would not shut the machine off when switched in the off position. Anyone had this happen before? I unplugged it to shut it off. The motor is completely fine. Shows how well it works when a switch breaks before the motor.

Anyway, guess we'll need a new one...

Switches are a common failure point in many electronics (saws, blenders, lamps). It is frustrating that a couple hundred dollar machine is done in by a one dollar switch. But stuck in the 'on' position is the best way for it to go. If you have even a basic knowledge of electronics you could install an in-cord switch. You might be able to find a local handyman or appliance repair shop that could fix it for not much money. Or you could just plug it into a power strip and use the power strip as the switch. Or go get a new machine and then save this one as the backup.

You might want to try taking it to a vacuum cleaner repair shop, show it to the guy and ask him if he feels comfortable trying to replace the switch. I'd guess you'd have a better than even chance of getting the switch replaced fairly inexpensively.
