Okay, I'm a little confused and have called the CF Clinic and I have read the cleaning instructions over, and over again. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. So, please respond if you see an error in what I'm doing.

1. Wash equipment daily with hot, soapy water, using mild dishwashing liquid detergent. Rinse thoroughly with STERILE WATER and air dry.

(This is my confusion do I need to use STERILE WATER while washing with the soap). Or do I just rinse with sterile water at the end? I think maybe I'm being a little crazy with boiling extra water to wash & rinse with. Do you moms use hot tap water and soap, and then rinse with sterile water? (Boild neb parts, except hose, mask three times a week also)

2nd. What do you store your clean dry parts in? Is a clean zip lock bag good. Or should I be storing them in something else?

3rd. The spacer same question as with nebs I wash them daily with soap and water and rinse with sterile water or do I use sterile water throught the entire wash?

Thanks for your help.....I'm so scared I'm going to do something wrong.

Thanks,

Sarah

Nebulizer parts; we use Pari LC plus. We have one set for each treatment. My daughter does 6 nebs a day; so we have 6 nebulizer set-up for 24 hour period. I store the "dirty" nebs in a large plastic container. At then end of the day, after the kids go to bed; we boil the nebulizer parts for 20 minutes then lay them on dry paper towels to air dry overnight. That way we are ready to go the next day. If we are traveling, I do store "sterile " neb pieces in a clean Ziplock bag. We don't use inhalers, so not sure on cleaning that. I also, bought a pressure cooker specifically for boiling nebs, that is all we use it for; it gets boiling quicker thatn a regular pot.

Once a day (noon hour), I wash the neb cups, masks in hot sudsy water while waiting for my water to boil. Boil the neb cups for 10 minutes and let dry on a paper towel next to the sink.

I don't store them in a plastic container -- my MIL once was positive a spare one was dry out at her lake home and when she pulled it out of the cupboard there was mold growing on it. When we travel, I take along a deep fryer and boil the nebs in our hotel room.

I don't use sterile water. I use a baby bottle/nipple container that goes into the dishwasher. Our dishwasher gets hot enough and we only have one spacer and one neb set to wash every day. When she is sick and we have more, I use a microwavable baby bottle sterilizer set. All this is AFTER I had wash with warm soapy water too.

When its done, I shake dry and put in a covered tupperware bowl.
