Moving to Minnesota

We may be moving from Texas to Minnesota. Born and raised in the south, I am not sure how to handle the cold for myself...much less my daughter w/cf. Maybe we can just stay inside for 5 months out of the year??? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> jk...

The town we are moving too is very small (about 10,000 people) and a lot of the houses are 20 - 50 years old. What about the carpet and ventilation systems? If I replace the carpet/padding and have the air ducts cleaned, will that be sufficient?

My son tells me constantly during the winter that he LIKES the cold. His preschool has them playing outside all winter long. Brr! You may want to look at getting autostart for your car. I've got one for mine -- just hit a button and it starts my car from the warmth of my office or home on those really cold days.

I would think once you get moved you can check things out, maybe look at getting a hepa air filter for your daughter's room or where she spends most of her time. We pretty much have hardwood/tile floors in our house. Gives me incentive to clean/sweep a little more often if I see dust or dog hair floating around.

Perhaps another suggestion would be to keep the house around 70 to 75 degrees fahrenheit, to keep the germs that causes colds, etc. down to a minimum.
Maybe as you get used to the cold winters, you can decrease the temp of the house a little more. My parents used to keep our house between 60 and 65 degrees fahrenheit, said it was good for the lungs, and cut down the germs for catching colds. However, seeing that you have a few little ones, I wouldn't reccomend letting the house get that cold.
But, one thing for sure, the immediate change from extreme hot to extreme cold seemed to be one reason for catching colds.
Other than that, bundle up and have a stock-pile of chicken noodle soup on hand.
Hope you have a good move, btw.

Hopefully you will be able to go to the Minneapolis cf clinic. We are from Texas and have taken my kids there twice. It is really good.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 6 and Jack, 4 both with cf
