Hi, I have been cultured with MRSA about a month ago and I have been fighting with a lung infection that is not responding to Oral meds. I go in this Wednesday (24) to get my first Port-a-cath. My question is has anyone been cultured with MRSA? If you have do you have tiredness a lot? If you suffer from being tired a lot of the time, is there anything that causes it other than MRSA? I have been really tired for about 2 weeks. I can sleep for 3 hours straight, and at bed time I can still sleep 8 full hours. This is not just a day to day thing here latley it has been everyday. I sit and try to read and the next thing I know I am waking up. Thank you in advance for helping me.Melissa 29 w/CF and MRSA

Hi, I do not have MRSA, but i do have b.cepacia, and i wanted to answer your question about the tired thing being caused by anything other than MRSA. Before i was diagnosed with b.cepacia i was so nbelievably tired that getting off the couch to take a shower was a MAJOR undertaking. I had no energy to do anything, and started to take naps which was something i had never ever done before. No matter how much sleep i got a night and with napping during the day, i was consistantly exhausted. Oral antibiotics werent doing as good a job as they once did. When i was finally diagnosed ( 6 1/2 years ago), i was put on combinations of antibotics and that seems to be the trick so far. Of coarse we have to play the switching game every 2 weeks to avoid getting too resistant to any particular antibiotic. I wish you luck in your quest for an answer to the tired problem. Try to get as much rest as you can, and look forward to when you get a hold of the problem and the tiredness lets up on you.~ Diane

There are many things that can cause this kind of chronic tiredness.. and I'm going to guess that it's a combination of a bunch of factors in your case. For starters, do you have cf related diabeties? If you haven't been diagnosed with it, ask your doctor about a glucose tolerance test. If you aren't producing insulin enough, then no matter how much you eat, you are starving at the molecular level. Fighting infection of any kind takes energy, I know it's hard, but try to regulate your naps, no longer than an hour, and if you have to go to bed early, so be it. Good luck.Debbie22 yr. old w/ cf

I am always tired for the past few weeks espesialy! I do have an infection now and I am on iv's at home and now I am even more tired like anything. I feel totaly zapped and worn out. Do you think it's the triple antibiotics or the infection or what?

I think that any type of infection...know matter what the bug...zaps us of our energy. Our bodies are using energy to try to fight it off....so it makes us tired. Just get lots of rest...it will take time. Take Care!Dea

I just found this website and saw your posting regarding the tiredness with MRSA. Since I am new to this website....I'm not sure when you posted the question. I am 37 years old and was just diagnosed with MRSA. Like you, I was tired all the time and completely "wiped out". I am doing better now that I am on Zyvox (oral antibiotics, TOBI, and Bactraban (nasal ointment) as that MRSA can be infected in the nasal passages. I still have my days of being tired as I still continue to work ( though my work hours has decreased to 12 per week), it still takes a toll on my body to get up and get ready for work, going through the tasks of doing breathing treatments and CPT. After 37 years, my body is very tired and I have noticed that when I do get sick, it takes longer for me to "bounce" back to my regular self. Dealing with the daily issues of CF and trying to maintain a normal lifestyle does take a toll on me mentally, which I am sure this is true with anyone with a chronic disease. So, when the depression sets in from being tired of being tired, that makes me that more tired. Does anyone else feel like I do?
