Can anyone please tell me?

If a mom cultured for mrsa and the babies don't have cf will they get it? Does that mean a mom with mrsa always should wear a mask around her babies?

I don't know a lot about MRSA but I thought I've heard the skin to skin contact MRSA is different than the MRSA CF patients culture in their lungs. Covering your cough, good handwashing and disposal of secreations should be good enough. Your babies will not be in danger of catching MRSA from you. No more than your husband or any other healthy individual.

I do not have info for MRSA and I have not cultured it (knock on wood) but when my daughter was in the NICU I asked if I should wear a mask and the NICU Dr's agreed that I did not need a mask. My daughter does not have CF so CF bugs should not like her lungs.

Basically, yes your babies might get mrsa from you. But it might not present itself in them. This is called "colonization." In cf though colonization usually happens in the lungs and can do damage. It is speculated that the majority of the healthcare workers in america colonize mrsa. This shouldn't be an issue for your child unless they have cf or some other illness. Wearing a mask will not prevent your child from getting mrsa. If you have it your baby will be exposed to it from your household. Your child might beat it or might colonize it. In the case of my son. He has two mutations for cf so geneticallly speaking he has cf. He has no symptoms and his cftr is fully functioning. They are not overly concerned with him being exposed to the mrsa I currently have. They are even optimistic that he may not colonize it. They are encouraging breastfeeding my son as long as I want to.

Are you going to breastfeed? It seems like it would be best if you would with mrsa in your household your breastmilk will offer specific antibodies to the mrsa that formula will not.
