My daughter is one year old and in addition to pseudomonas recently cultured mrsa as well. We've tried bactrim, Hibiclens washes and mupirocin nose ointment twice daily during the period of 3 weeks but it didn't help.

Can anyone share the protocol that worked to eradicate mrsa?

mrsa is hard to get rid of. My son's cultured it for years. It does culture higher and lower levels (even rare on occasion). One treatment we've had good luck with is nebulized gentamycin every other month. Ask your cf team about options. Good luck!

Can I ask a dumb question? My daughter also cultures MRSA and has for years. So I was reading Sophiesmum's blog about MRSA eradication, and it seemed to work for them but I was concerned about using the Bactroban or Muciprin cream (I'm pretty sure that is what it's called). Anyhow I got concerned when they tried to put my husband on it when he got a staph infection on a cut in his leg and I was reading the labeling and it said made from psuedomonus. So I called the pharmacist to ask him about it and he told me to get rid of it immediately! Just curious what everyone elses thoughts are on this. Thanks

My daughter cultured it when she was 2 years old. She went between IV Vancomycin, Linezolid, and then Vanco via inhalation. By the time she was 4, she had stopped culturing it at all. We did the eradication techniques, as well, a few times. For her, it worked but it took some time. She is 7, now and hasn't cultured MRSA again. I DID add extra CPT's in, mainly in manual form and it seemed to help.

And penicillin is made from mold. Bactroban is made from some of the acids that pseudomonas produces.

whew!! What a relief!! Thank you so much for clearing that up for me Havoc!! It scared the tar out of me!! I figured that our doctors would have told us about it, if their was a possibility that it would harm her. I'm so glad I asked. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
