MSRA

Someone we know found out that I have MSRA and now they are are freaked out that I could have gave it to their children. I have had MRSA for years (20 years)... this is not something new. I take the necessary precaution not to transmit it.

No one near and dear to me has gotten it (hubby, son, mom, dad, sister). I am very careful. I hope they don't find out I have Pseudonomas. That will definitely freak them out even more.

Now I feel like I am "unclean" to them. I just hope they don't cause panic and mayhem around others that we know.

What can I say/do to calm their nerves??

Hi,

I guess you feel like we cfers with Cepacia feel like when we disclose that we have Cepacia to other people in the cf community.... it certainly isn't a nice feeling.

In all honesty, unless those children have cf, open wounds or are immuno compromised in some way, then, I think the children will be ok. MRSA (like all other bacteria) is not air bourne and is spread mostly by saliva droplets left on hands. You (and every other person with colonised bacteria whether it's MRSA or regular staph) exposes those around us to our germs in some way. For most healthy people, it's no problem to be exposed to these bacteria.

Like I said, unless those kids have CF, I think it will be fine. Unfortunately, they're being over cautious probably because they're ignorant.

my in-laws flipped out when they found out i have MRSA. they saw a dr phil episode about it and thought they were gonna die. funny thing is i've had it since long before i met their daughter.

we all get hyped up about a good story, even though we all know things are overblown in the media. try to reason with them. if it fails, move on without them.
