Mucus in baby's stool

What does mucus in stool mean? Does it necessarily mean that my baby is pancreatic insufficient? Or is mucus always there in CF patients' stool whether they are PI or PS?
I'm asking because my baby has no symptoms until now except for a viscous mucus-y stool. She's growing well but I'm starting to wonder if we should start her on enzymes. We have an appointment on the 15th of this month but I wanted to know if anyone might have an idea what all this might mean

Thanks

DS is pancreatic insufficient and has always been on enzymes. He would from time to time -- usually when constipated have -- sorry if tmi -- stools that were encased in mucus. Like a sausage. I warned you TMI! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

But if he needed more enzymes, his stools were usually shinier, looser -- formula fed stools resembled orangish yellowish cake frosting consistency.

I believe that usually an indication that they need enzymes are more along the lines of oily stools, but I could be really off there!!!

Some things that may be going on are that baby is teething or baby is coughing up mucus, swallowing it and then it is passing through into the stools.

Both boys poops would get ridiculously messed up when they were teething!!

blessings,
missa

Mucus in the GI tract is another lovely attribute of CF...I don't believe there is a specific correlation to PI. Mucus in the stool is common among individuals with CF - PI or PS.

It's been many years since I've changed a CF diaper and I can only tell you what I experienced. Our oldest was not diagnosed until one week before our second was born. Our youngest was started on enzymes within the first 2 weeks. They started her on enzymes after her test results came back from her cord blood. They were 99% sure she had CF based on her matching up with our other daughter almost identically. We didn't actually go to a CF clinic until she was 2 weeks old. We're talking almost 21 years ago though.

Thank you all for your feedback. I will definitely ask about this on our next appointment, but I just needed to try and ease my mind a little bit until then.
