Muscular pain with coughing

Hi,

I'm having another exascerbation and I think I've done myself some muscular damage coughing too much.

For the past couple of days I've had pretty severe pain and muscle spasms all down the sides of my stomach (not chest) with any forceful breathing out (coughing, PEP, nose blowing...). It's getting to the point where just walking or chaning position is painful.

My bump is big enough now that I don't think I can use my core muscles to cough like normal.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can still cough and do my lung clearance without hurting myself??

AJ, I don't know what to tell you. I didn't have this while pregnant. I have had something similar in my ribcage though when I strained my intercostal muscles. Perhaps this is what you've done but to your abdominal muscles.

I would suggest huff coughing. Then when it is ready to be coughed out, brace yourself with a pillow over your tummy. Additonally, look into any ab exercises that are safe for pregnancy to help strengthen the area. Even just kegals with a tensing of your stomach muscles too would probably be good. Also massage of the areas in pain. Also regular chiropractic adjustments. These are all things I did during pregnancy. I carried until 40 weeks and delivered a 7 lb. 10 oz. healthy boy.

I hope that helps!
