My friend is a 15 year old girl, and on Saturday, she said she was coughing up blood. It's Wendsday and hasn't happened since Saturday. What's going to happen to her? Will she have to go to the hospital, and is coughing up blood really serious? Thanks guys...

Hi am am 18 and i have cf. I have coughed up blood before and it scared me, but within an hour or so i stopped. I was told to watch it and if it happened for more than a day then to contact the doctor. sometimes you can cough up blood just from irritation in the lungs. I'm sure your friend will be fine.

My son Hubie is almost 13 and he has coughed up blood 3 times now. it is scarry.Hubie has to be life flighted to the hospital because we live 3 hours from our hospital. What kills me is he threw up blood and the pft lab wanted him to do pfts that morning. I was so upset, i asked them to leave the room and come back when they had some common sence.

I agree with the last post! I tried to find anything funny about any of these posts and couldn't. I can't find the word laugh anywhere. Can you please explain your negative attitude?
Thanks,
SRH

I love random posts that don't make sense...

To respond to the original post though, don't worry about it. It's actually pretty common among Cfers, so I've been told. I've coughed up blood about 3 times, and after it happened, it didn't happen for a long time. The last time it happened, I coughed up a lot, for like 3 minutes...then it just went away. Like one person has said, it can be from irritation of the lungs due to violent coughing, and soemtimes can be a sign of an infection. But majority of the time it's not a big deal, but sometimes when it happens the doctors just prescribe a medicine for it, unless it was like serious, and happened daily and whole lot of course...then I don't know.

if it is random it is cool but if it is daily it's not. if it happens for a while they will have to do a pulmonary embolization

Tell your parents. Was it streaking or all blood. Make a note of how much you cough up like a teaspoon or a cup. If its a lot id go to your cf centre and tell them
