Nasal Washes for CFers?

Hi... me again...

If you notice my post on whether I have a cold or allergies, you will see why I may benefit from some nasal washes... I would like to start these, but would like to know what the appropriate solution is..... Also, I remember reading somewhere that CFers shouldn't use certain water or should boil or something to disinfect the water they use for the saline rinse... What were the "rules" for this? Anyone know? Basically, I'd like to know a doctor recommended method for doing a home saline nasal wash. Anyone have one?

Thanks!!!

p.s. I never do these regularily, cause my CF hasn't really affected my sinuses, so this sinus stuff is kinda unusual to me. Thanks!

Tap water, bottled water, distilled water can all carry PA and B. Cepacia in them.

I would recommend buying sterile water or boiling water for over 10 minutes to make it sterile (kill all bacteria).

Hey at Walgreens there is a kit for nasal rinsing. I use it, it comes with a bottel and the saline stuff to put into the sterile water. Now you have to make sure that you grab one with the bottle with it. Here is a link to the stuff I use. I get it at Wal greens I use to get from my docs office before I found it at Wal greens. I boil my water and then use it once it is cooled Im not sure what the stuff is that goes in the bottle, Im thinking something like salt and something but not sure. When you click on this link its the blue box with clouds is the one you would one. I love this stuff it helps clear my sinuses really well. Hope this helps

My husband just started using this thing from Walgreen's "SinuCleanse - Neti Pot". It was in the sinus sprays section and it kinda looks like a small tea pot. You mix water & the solution packets are included. Basically the packets are simply a salt mixture, but you put one end of the 'teapot' up a nostril then tip your head and it goes flowing through your sinuses. Chris (hubby) has had 27 polypectemy/sinus surgeries over his lifetime, so sinuses have been a major problem with his CF. He has found this to be an effective cleanser for the sinuses and uses it nightly; it only takes a few minutes.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Does everyone pay for a solution? I know in the past my CF doc gave me an at-home way to mix up salt and water, but I can't remember it. I'd rather do that cause its FREE. Anyone know the ratio or anything?

Thanks for the good info though!! I appreciate the responses!
