this effects your health.
I am very much a germa phob. I
always keep my house as clean as possible. I disinfect the
bathrooms and kitchen with lysol all the time, especially
after company has come over. I keep the house dusted and
picked up. Dust affects my breathing. If the house is dusty I feel
sick. Of course when I am ill my husband cleans as much as he can.
But when I am well I clean something everyday.
I also believe that keeping my hands clean ALL the time helps with
my health too. Since I have gotten into the habit of washing my
hands all the time, I find that I am not sick as often with colds/
flu's. Hope I have answered your question.

Im not a germ freak, well I am to a point, but my house is not always clean, my bathroom, I HATE cleaning, this may sound gross but I have not cleaned my bathroom in probably a month, the bathtub sucks at cleaning I can NEVER get it nice and clean even if i use elbow grease, my tub has been like this since I moved in I hate it. I keep telling myself Im going to clean the bathroom, but I just find excuses not too, I think that if I had more company I would clean it, it really needs cleaned. My husband will clean the toilet once in awhile. The rest of the house isnt too bad, only cloths, dirty dishes and trash (when the trash can is FULL) will be scattered throuthout the house. My medicine area is clean, Im a germ freak about my nebs and any meds.

I keep my kitchen as clean as possible. I'm continually wiping my counters down with lysol, and try to get the dishes done once a day. My bedroom is a mess because I'm in the middle of packing and stuff, so I have clothes all over the place, but I don't normall spend a lot of time in my bedroom (only when I sleep). My living room and bathroom are the hardest rooms for me to keep clean, because the living room involves dusting and vacuuming which agrivates my lungs, and the chemicals used to clean my bathroom irritate my lungs as well. I'm clean - but not overly germa phobic clean.

I'm clean but not a nut about it. With having OCD i used to be a clean-a-holic and it got to the point where i was driving myself nuts and decided i had to stop that and live like a normal person. Now i am semi-clean. I keep things partially in order and dust when i have time or just feel like it. I vacuum a lot since i have 2 cats . I keep the lizard room as clean as i can or it will smell real bad. My bathroom is probably where i slack sometimes. I keep it clean, but i dont clean it as often as i should. Being a housekeeper is what i think the problem is.... I do this stuff at work and when i get home i dont want to do my job all over again , so to speak.

Whether or not the health of a CFer is affected by cleanliness depends on an individual's sensitivities to certain pathogens and allergens. I am allergic to things like animal dander, dust mites, pollen and mold spores, and fragrances (like candles, air fresheners, etc.) For that reason, the following items are a MUST for me:

1) protective pillow covers and mattress covers
2) Vacuum cleaner with 99.9% allergen reducing capability
3) 2 HEPA filters (one upstairs, one downstairs)

The following are the 6 most likely places in the home to find bacteria. Fortunately, dealing with these things need not require extrodinary effort in order to be protected.

1) kitchen sponges and rags
2) cutting boards
3) kitchen surfaces, including the faucet and knobs
4) drains (sinks and bathtubs)
5) doorknobs
6) toothbrushes

I hate cleaning, mainly because we seem to accumulate so much clutter and I hate picking up and putting things away. I figure if I can get a handle on getting rid of stuff we don't use, I'll eventually hire someone to clean the house. I hate dusting, so DH gets to do that. Once a week I usually sweep the hardwood, tile & bathroom floors, then I use the electric broom. Then I use the mop. I clean the upstairs bathroom really good, too. Vacuum the bedrooms.

Every day I wash all the non-dishwashable dishes and wipe down the counters, stove and kitchen table while boiling neb cups.
