Neb Question

I have a quick question.  John is on his first treatment of
Nebs and the one thing they didn't talk about with my wife was
cleaning the thing.  I am looking for the how, and how often,
if any of you have that info handy.  <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"><br>
<br>
Thanks a ton ahead of time!

If it's a pari nebulizer -- it can be boiled. Should be boiled for 10 minutes after each use. Other nebulizers, you should check with mfg. literature. Most melt when boiled.

Most often they will tell you to steralize them by boiling them (depending on the type of neb, it should say on the package). What I use to clean my nebs everyday are steam cleaning bags that you put in the microwave. They are made to clean breaspumps and feeding accessories but they work great for nebs too and you dont have to worry about leaving them on the stove to long and accidently melting them =) (i have made that mistake a few times). The type I use are called Quick Clean Micro Steam Bags and are made by medela. I know that you can get them at target in the baby sections, but I am pretty sure you can order them online too. they work great and it takes just a few minutes =)

Hope this helps

Here are the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) guidelines. They are more stringent than manufacturing packaging directions. One of my top 3 regrets is not starting a more stringent cleaning method earlier in my life but if that's all I can complain about the way my parents took care of me I'd say I had a pretty good upbringing!!

</a>
I use the hydrogen peroxide method because my clinic in Austin, TX said we could do the alcohol, H020 or bleach methods but not the others mentioned because they didn't feel they were good enough. I write the H020 off as a medical expense. I got the full cost of it back from my Flexible Spending Account so far this year. The remainder will go on my tax write off's list.
