Nebulizer for infant?

Our CF doctor hasn't stressed using a nebulizer for Ellie at this point - this includes nebulizing normal saline. He said it wouldn't "harm anything" to use the nebulizer, but hasn't stressed using it as of yet. Thoughts?

I'm sure they will start discussing albuterol prior to CPT sooner or later. Our CF center didn't want to overwhelm us when my dd was diagnosed. So first we dealt with CPT and when she got her first cold/cough at about 6 months, they started the nebulizer.

If your daughter has any congestion, I'd ask to get started pronto, if not I think you can take things a bit more slowly. You might ask your doctors if they plan on starting nebs before her first birthday, as needed, or what.... If they say they'll wait until she's older and has lung involvement, you might want to switch CF docs, though -- prevention is certainly the key to CF care, but on the other hand an infant with no lung issues can probably wait a few months.

We've been using atrovent and albuterol since DS was about a week old. When he was 3 months old he got bronchitis and cultured a couple bugs -- enterbactor choclae (sp) and pseudomonas. The bronchiodialators help to open up the airways, and are especially helpful during cold and flu season when DS wheezed or coughed a little big. Plus it might be a good idea to get your child used to nebbing. Some kids HATE it. DS wasn't thrilled about his tobi and screamed thru it the first couple of times.
