I need some advice. I don't know what is going on. I have always been pretty stable with weight gain and enzymes have always worked well for me at a relatively low dose.

However, I am soooooooo gassy lately. Horribly. For the most part all my bms are normal (sinking, formed, not greasy), but the gas is really rank. And there's a lot of it. I upped my enzymes from 4 creon 20s to 5, but it isn't helping. and this gas is constant, not just something I ate.

Do you think I should try to up my enzymes more or is there something else I should be doing? I have lost some weight, but I am breastfeeding, so I think that's got a lot to do with it - and I am still definitely in a healthy weight category.

I hate talking about this stuff, but I think my whole family would enjoy your input

Thanks!

Hey Shannon,

I am sorry to hear of the problems you are having.

For 5 years, I was taking Pancrecarb MS-8, 4 with meals and 2 with snacks. Then all of a sudden last spring, I started having so much gas and much more frequent loose stools. My doc ended up changing my enzymes to Pancrecarb MS-16, 6 with meals and 4 with snacks. THAT WAS A HUGE JUMP BUT WORKED. That is like taking 8 with meals 4 with snacks of my old ones.

I'm not saying you need that much of a change. I don't think you do. But I am positive that it is the enzymes. Either you need more or different enzymes altogether. I lost 5 pounds when my old enzymes stopped working. I was eating the same and everything. I know you are breastfeeding so I agree that has to do with some/half of your weight loss. But I know with me, it was night and day. One day I felt fine, then bam. I was even exercising back then faithfully.

I think you just need an adjustment. Call your doc and get it taken care of. I know you said you upped them from 4 to 5, but I don't think that's enough. I increased my old ones from 4 to 7 until I started to notice a difference. Just get it straightned out before any other possible problems occur. You can't afford to get run down with 3 young kids at home. Take care. Good luck!

you might be now lactose intolerant,, try taking Lactaid tablets with your dairy foods and see if you stop having so much gas and the smell also should go away and you wont be bloated. If you try and the discomfort dissapears then your problem is dairy products. Milk, cheese, butter and any product made with dairy.

It can also be induced by gallbladder removal. I had mine removed and it made thigns worse for me to eat. Iwent completely lactose intolerant even on milk. And I love cheese thats what i live on as much as i can. But it's the worst thing when you are lactose intolerant. However those Lactaid tablets do help. Give them a try.

Also try not to combine certain vegetables and fruit, it causes gas, sugar does give gas too. Wheat is a bad one too. So go on a simple diet for a day or two and just eat no dairy and see if that helps.

Good luck. I hope you can solve it, i know its a huge dilemma for me it was , specially when i was little. Back in those days we did not have enzymes like we do today that really digest the food for us. I suffered so much when I was a4yrs old girl and up till i was 24yrs old. And when i got diagnosed I finally was able to digest all the foods i never could have as a child. No cakes no cupcakes, chips, dip, cream, cheese nothing. I t was horrible. So even though I got diagnosed with c.f. and it brougth another set of serious problems, i found the way to eat all i never could have for so many years. I was happpy for Scandipharm that's for sure!

Try to change your diet by eating small meals instead of large ones. Dont mix sugars and fruit. Watch the dairy and take lactaid. If you can get a book on the market about the right time and right food combination that is what will help you tremendously with all diet needs to eliminate discomfort. That's what helped me.
I dont remember the title of the book. But i have always used it s methods and advice and it works. FOOD COMBINATIONs are important. To absorb and to eliminate gas and pain.

Yeast overgrowth can cause lots of excess, rank gas. I agree it could also be a new food allergy/sensativity.

For yeast management, a daily probiotic can help. A diet with no white flour and sugar can help balance out a not too severe imbalance of gut flora (yeast overgrowth). If you think it is and these techniques don't help much, you may have to try something more with diet and cleanse the system of yeast. www.wholeapproach.com has tons of resources for natural way to rid yourself of yeast. This is a really tough one...I've been struggling with it for 10 months and I don't have CF. This program has helped and I am about 80% healed after 3 months.

One way to make grains more digestible is to soak them overnight. You can take whole oats for example and soak overnight in water with a bit of yogurt or rice milk (if dairy is an issue). Cook for 20 minute or until done in the AM and add things like sliced banana, almonds, cinnamon and just a little bit of honey or maple syrup. I use steel cut oats or I partially grind whole oats. You can also add a bit of coconut oil...it is good calories and it good for gut flora.

Best of luck to you. It is so embarressing!

I see you have just had a baby...the yeast overgrowth started for me during and after my second child's pregnancy. Hormones can play a role. Good God I was so rank when I was pregnant my husband went out and got one of those respirator masks for wood working. One night we are watching TV and I look over and he is wearing it! I about died laughing. I could have cleared a room in 2 seconds flat. I was also more sensative to dairy after my second...go figure.

Seriously, addressing my yeast has helped wiht the gas...I rarely get it any more.
