I'd heard this before -- mainly it has to do with the age group -- Children. Not adults. But still, discouraging for those with young children with severe lung problems who may not have any other options available to them.

I read an article yesterday that has some major CF research doctors "vehemently" claiming the inaccuracies in these findings. They state that there are some major flaws in the data collection and that the findings are inconsistent with the reality they are seeing in their patients.

I hope that makes you less discouraged. It made me feel better. I'll see if I can find that link for you.

Yeah, I saw this at cff.org and it really depressed me.

cff.org says that the study's results "reinforce the CF Foundation's approach to treating CF and prolonging life. The key to sustained health and longevity for children with CF is early diagnosis, intervention and comprehensive and sustained multi-disciplinary care."

Okay, duh. Maybe I'm being harsh but this rubbed me the wrong way. Believe me, we as parents get it. I felt like they were lecturing us. And what about the children for whom comprehensive and sustained care doesn't work? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">
