A very interesting research topic will be presented at the upcoming NACFC where scientists report a novel approach to treating CF lung disease. They claim that a polymer (called PAAG) which is based on a natural polysaccharide, is able to breakdown unwanted mucus and bacterial biofilms. The polymer, has also been shown to work together with traditional antibiotics used to treat CFers to improve the efficacy of those drugs, even for bacteria hiding in biofilms and against multi-drug resistant bacteria.

It will be interesting to see what they present and more importantly, if and when this potential drug will reach the clinic and be available to CFers.

The research is very important, but for CFers and their loved ones, the TIME it takes for these drug candidates to hit the market is even more important! Any resistance from policy makers, payers and regulators is costing lives! So resist Wisely.
