Hi,
I'm the mom of a 2-time liver transplant recipient. I have started a new group blog for parents of kids with chronic or life-threatening ilnesses or any physical or mental disability. Here's the story I posted to my liver kids group:
At the hospital they had an art therapy program for kids, and also the parents. I am just terrible in the whole visual arts department, and so it didn't do much for me. However, I have found that writing has been so therapeutic for me, and I've been enjoying so much reading blogs written by other parents. There are several sites, DotMoms for example, devoted to mommys writing about life as a parent, and I love reading them. However, it strikes me that parents of children with special medical needs often have such a totally different experience of parenthood that sometimes it can be hard to relate. So I've decided to start a group weblog devoted to parents (moms and dads) of kids with chronic illness or general special needs (autism or down syndrome, for example). The idea is to post essays about life as a parent with our wonderful kids, both the "regular kid" stuff and all the other stuff, too. I don't view this as a new support group, but rather as an artistic outlet.
If anyone would like to be a regular contributor to the blog, or contribute a guest essay, just let me know. I'm willing to give feedback, too, if you want, on your essay (sort of like an editor). I hope this gives you all a chance to unleash the inner writer!
If you know of anyone who would be interested in joining, please pass along the URL:
