Hi everyone, I am new here and don't really know a lot about CF. My daughter is 15 months old and has been pretty sick for the past 6 weeks. We have had 11 dr appt and two admission to hospital in that time frame. Here is a little about her: at 6 months old,she got croup and has had it about every 6-8 weeks since. The dr's kept telling me that she will out grow it and that it is normal for some to keep having it. The last time she got it was June 21 when she was hospitalized because she was having severe retractions. Well since being released, she has had a gastro infection, which she was hospitalized for, re-occuring ear and throat infections, fevers, pressure in hre right ear, coughing/gagging when she drinks, cries in her sleep, diarhhea.
After now seeing 3 dr.s, our family dr said on Friday that she would like to test her for CF and I don't know what to do. I live in Canada and our local hospital does the sweat test, but it takes 2-3 weeks for the results and I don't think I can wait that long!

Any information, support anyone can offer would be great. I am feeling extremely overwhelmed and to be honest, I am scared for my baby.

Hi Madismom, I'm sorry for what you are going through.
I don't know how it works in canada but here in Ohio it only took a few hours to get the results from our daughters sweat test. i don't know if you have acredited cf centers in canada, if you do have the sweat test done there. You really need to go to a place were they know alot about cf. I hope everything works out for you and your family. Please keep us posted.

I agree with Kayla's dad. Have a CF Center do the testing.
We got the results back on my daughter within the hour.

I hope she does't have CF but if so you can be proactive and get the help she needs. Please keep us posted.

Thanks everyone, we do have a CF clinic about an hour away. I am going to call them tomorrow and find out how I can bring her there for the test. Hopefully it does not take a while to get her into there, because I need to know what is going on. If she does not have CF- Great, but if she does I want to get her the care she needs.

Madi was in day care full time, but I have just taken a leave from work so I can get her better. The dr's all kept saying that she was getting viruses from the day care and as soon as I pulled her out and she continued to get sick, then they mentioned CF.

I feel like I am on mental overload and I am so sorry if I ramble on, but I just feel like I have no one to talk to about this. My DH is great, but he doesn't want to see this an issue until the test, I can't do that. I would love to talk to my family, but it's too hard right now.
