New insurance questions

My husband is thinking of taking a new job that would have different insurance than we have now. We have GREAT insurance now... few hassles, great coverage, low premiums, low out of pocket max, etc. etc.

So, I'm not totally aware of all of the problems that we could have with a new plan. Could you share issues you've had with insurance... and what questions I should be asking?

We'd like to be as well-informed as possible about what we're getting into!

THANKS!

For me the most important questions to ask are:

do you pay a co-pay or a % for office visits, pharmacy & hospital stays

is there any co-insurance payments due

is there a deductible

is there a maximum per year on pharmacy

what is the out of pocket maximum per year

The answer to all of these can make a huge difference in your ability to pay for all the usual CF stuff -- especially the pharmacy and hospital stays.

I always look at plans for co-pays only -- I have never had and never want a % only plan... 20% of pulmozyme or tobi would be horrible, nevermind the routine labs and what if a hospital stay..... 20% can put you in the poor house quickly.

Alyssa is so right...

It's important to compare doctor/hospital deductibles and copays, but I would first think to look at your prescription coverage. TOBI and Pulmozyme especially are so incredibly expensive!

One thing I have not seen mentioned. Look into the lifetime max. on a plan. It is good to get a plan that has an unlimited lifetime max. 1,000,000 doesn't go very far unfortunatley.
