HI, my name is Andrea and I am 32 w/ CF. I was cruising the web and found this site. How exciting that others are doing well and are in thier 30's and 40's. Sometimes I feel like I am in the minority in that department. I had to change CF clinics a few years ago because I was to "old" to continue in the one at the Children's Hospital. So I don't know any others with CF, and I don't know the new clinic staff very well either. I go to Vanderbilt Cf clinic every 6 months, we live 4 hrs away and it is a 2 day trip for us. I see my original CF doctor in Knoxville TN every 3 mos. So I am well cared for. I have been married for 14 yrs to a wonderful and very understanding man, whom I love more every day. I work out at a Gym 2 -3 days a week, and try to make myself eat 3 healthy meals a day (no fast food...yuk :p) Although the weight gain problem has practically disappeared since I hit the big 30.....darn that metabolism!!! :) I am 5'3" and currently weigh 130 lbs. My fat test at the gym showed me at 11% fat and in the "fit" range for my weight. My PFT's as of June this year are FVC 61% FEV1 34%, I know I need to improve these, at Vanderbilt my FVC has been as high as 81%, and my FEV1 was at 37%. So my goal is to work on my endurance and lung function. My routine for CF is pretty average, I guess. 30 min w/ vest twice a day. Xopenex, pulmozyme, HTS, Tobi (alternate with Coly-mycin) I have been taken off Prendisone, Theodure, and Singular and so far haven't noticed any effects in my health. My routine at the gym is cardio (Elliptical, treadmill) for 25 minutes, weight training for an hour. I do upper body one day, lower the next. I drag my helpless hubby with me, and he claims I torture him by making him workout...LOL. I will admit that I push myself hard, only recently have I given in to taking a nap every afternoon. I also work part-time as a Photographer & Writer. I also hike whenever possible, the mountains here are beautiful. As far as religion I am one of Jehovah's witnesses, yes, I'm a door knocker...LOL. Hope to meet new people here and educate myself on how to better care for my CF.

Welcome to the site Andrea!! I am so glad to hear that you are doing lots of Cardio!! That is the key to keeping that lung capacity at its best!! I need to focus on working out like you do and I would be healthier for it!! There is no shame in taking an afternoon nap. You have to do what it takes to stay charged up!!

Welcome!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
