New Mom Looking for advice

Hello, I am a new mom to a son born on April 30th with CF. He is currently on enzymes, vitamins and has an infant vest to help with his chest PT. I am doing some work from home and have been wrestling with returning to work part time in November when Owen is over six months. I have not found anyone who has their child in daycare. I'm worried that this may be a terrible decision. The daycare's I am looking at all have less than 12 children in them. The providers I have spoken to are all in home providers, they are comfortable with giving Owen enzymes and have agreed to keep me informed if other kids come in sick. I do not want an in-home nanny because I am not comfortable with having someone alone in my home with my son, I like the idea of two plus adults. Has anyone tried daycare? I would appreciate any advice people could give, both pro and con.

Thank you!

This topic has come up often. You may want to look at past posts to see what responses people have left.

You say your child is less than 3 months old and using a vest? I have never heard of a child using one at such a young age.

I went back to work, put Jae in daycare, and stopped breastfeeding (dried up literally overnight) all within the same week when she first turned six months old. Within three weeks, she had a double ear infection. Anti-biotics were given and she was fine for 2 mos. At nine months, she came down with pneumonia. After that cleared, (and looking back I am surprised it did, bc she wasn't dx'd until the age of 3, they told me she had allergies..mhhmmm ok) she was having serious sinusitis and had surgery to remove her adnoids and insert tubes in both ears at age 11 1/2 mos.

Those 5 months of my life were a nightmare. After the surgery, and right before her first birthday, I found a stay at home mom with three other children looking for extra income from home to help support her husbands income. She watched Jaelyn sick or not. I was greatful as a single mom bc I couldn't just leave work every time she threw up handfuls of mucus or had a fever, but the daycare expected me to. And I understand that completely. But that never happened at Jen's.

Once Jae was around just 3 other children, she rarely got sick again. But when she was around 20 other snotty nose babies, she was ill 24/7 that first year of her life. And she stayed well all the way until she got into Pre-k. I even put her in a private school with smaller class sizes. By her summer before Kindegarden she was on IV's. A shock to me because she was extremely healthy at that time. And to this day Jen still watches our kids whenever we need a sitter. She has been with us threw thick and thin!!!

Basically, I guess the point of my whole story here is that if you can keep them in a more intimate group, that is what worked for us. Sometimes in life you gotta do what you gotta do, but from my experience I would say IF you can find an in-THEIR-home private sitter, things will work out a lot more smoothly in the CF world.
