Hi my name is jess and im dating a wonderful man who has cf. We have been talking marriage and possible future children (i have 2 from a past relationship) depending on test results... but well i have a relatively personal question.. with nothing in my routine really changing (diet working out ect.) I have been getting an infection pretty consistently ( i have never had one before we got together) and i was wondering if the elevated salt levels could be contributing..ive tried looking it up but i cant really find anything about a non cf woman with this problem.

Do you mean more respiratory infections? If that is what you mean then the bacteria that most CF lungs are colonized with are not typically found in lungs of non-CF people. However, if your guy is catching many viruses typical colds that are going around and bringing them home to you. I could see how you could get colds more often. It is like when a child goes to school at first they get sick more often, but then they build up an immune system and the second year in school for a non-CF child they get sick less often.

You may want to increase hand washing and make sure he cleans his own neb equipment etc.

Hi - I might have missunderstood - but - As i got it-you have older kids around - perhaps they attend kindergarden - and that is from where your newest born is catching viruses.
When Asia was born - sick and then Zuzia - non cf - I was told one thing - good for you as the older will not bring sickness to the younder with cf - also kindergaden is very hard on health for kids - many more kids get more viruses - one thing is parents sending kids sick to kindergarden or daycare - and second is the age itself. Kids develop their immune system and also simply grow and develop with time (just like their bones and tommy)... about 7 years of age they reach a pretty high immune system - almost as high as adults. The elevated salt levels have nothing to do with cathing more infections. Its an easy to decet sysptom of cf - crucial to giving diagonis - but it does not cause anything more... at least I that's how I was told. maybe I got it wrong;)
wash hands, change cloths of older kids when they get home and make sure they don't sneeze and cauth at the baby - or even kiss too much. It's hard - I know - but I think the elder will understant if you tell them why.
