I plan on it, but I plan on figuring out a way to formulate my own and not pay some pharmacy 40+ bucks a month to send me sterile salt water. That just really pisses me off. If it was 10 or even maybe 20 bucks i'd pay it just for conveinence. But 40 bucks? Go F off you greedy bastiges!

I may be a little naive here, but how would salt water benefit our lungs? How does it work?

My son is on home IV, but when he was inpatient, they started saline nebs twice a day. They were VERY irritating and he coughed a ton (similar to having an induced sputum test). The doc told us it gets easier the longer they do it. They didn't give us any info about it for home use, but I will ask at our follow-up.

seandavis - the pharmacy here wants to charge me $120 for the hypertonic! I am getting in touch with the Cf pharmacy - the only pharmacy that will do it here won't bill my insurance and I don't want to have to hassel with that every month - so for now, no salt water - but I am excited to try it.
**Any chemist here who knows what the ratio of sea salt to water would be to make 7% saline? I could boil that at home!

seandavis - the pharmacy here wants to charge me $120 for the hypertonic! I am getting in touch with the Cf pharmacy - the only pharmacy that will do it here won't bill my insurance and I don't want to have to hassel with that every month - so for now, no salt water - but I am excited to try it.

Be careful about mixing your own....need to keep it sterile.

I can't believe someone above said it was going to cost over a $100...or whatever. I started it on my own about 8 or 9 years ago, before there were any studies out, against my doctors wishes. Now he says good thing I did...
I just dilute it w/ sterile saline (bronchosaline, or the pink saline vials)
