Newborn issues

My sister just delivered my nephew yesterday. My nephew was diagnosed while she was pregnant. Apparently both my sister and brother in law are Delta F508 carriers, and Charlie ended up with CF. He was born in the morning, and his belly was swelling during the day. They were waiting for him to poop, and he finally did this morning after getting an enema, then only a little more after a suppository this afternoon. Is this common with CF babies? Are there any incorrect treatments? She lives in St Thomas (Virgin Islands) and they're not very familiar with CF there. Just figured I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else has had this issue and has any advice.

Have they done xrays to see if they've cleared the bowels? Meconium illeus can occur, especially with the double delta f508 diagnosis. In DS case, his bowels were twisted, obstructed and enlarged in one area to the extent that he needed to have surgery to clear the obstruction. In his case they had to do a barium enema to determine the extent of the obstruction.

Do they have access to a cf center or high level NICU in the states?

My son was born with intestinal blockage. Just because your nephew had some bowel come out after an enema does not mean his intestine is clear. He needs to be seen by a pediatric GI dr immediately. Often babies will need surgery to clear out their intestines. I think about 15% of babies with cf are born with this blockage. I have no idea how the hospitals are in St. Thomas. But if it was my son and he was experiencing meconium illeus, I would fly him immediately to a hospital with a cf center so they could make sure his problem is taken of correctly.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 8 and Jack, 6 both with cf, Grant, 10 months no cf

Hopefully I'm responding correctly, this is the first time I've posted. Thank you both for the quick responses. The meconium did pass this morning after the enema (had forgotten the name of it), but it sounded like there was more that needed to come out. My sister has met with a few different CF centers in CT and NY, and I believe is going to use the CT one for her home base. Would twisted bowels show on an xray? I know they xrayed him in the middle of the night, but I don't remember hearing anything was twisted. I believe she also mentioned surgery is a potential, but I think the hospital was talking about flying him stateside if that needed to happen.
