night fevers when on iv's

I was wondering if anybody besides my daughter gets fevers only at night when on IV's, right now she has 102.8 fever but in the day she's fine no fever, and her o2 levels are lower then normal for her.

Hmm. All I have to offer is, that if she is taking one of her meds once a day (at night, or in the evening just before bed), it could be iv fever, but if that doesn't fit, I just don't know. I'm sure someone else can help you more. I hate fevers at night- just miserable. I hope you get to figure it out soon.

Also known as Drug Fever. Does it happen right after her infusion? If not, you might want to call the doctor just incase. I have had 103 temps before after taking an IV medication. It usually happens after taking the IV med for at least a week and right after the IV infusion. I would be given Tylenol (per Doctor's orders) and after 30-45 mins the fever would be gone. Night time always seems to make things worse for some reason.

Thanks for responding, her fevers are only at night and not right after a iv, her IV's are at 7,3, and 11 for one IV and 10 am for the second IV she has been on IV for almost three weeks now.

It could still be drug fever, but I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side

I'm glad to know that drug fever isn't something totally unknown here (but also sorry about that ). My docs looked at me like I was nuts when I suggested it (well, all but one- the important one ). Apparently Tobramyacin (and possibly other myacins) do it for me, and also give me vertigo.

If you haven't already, maybe you could check her temp after the other 2 sessions. It might be a milder fever that you all don't really notice during the day, but do at night. My fevers are always worse at night, too, both temp and discomfort. At least that would help rule it out if the doctor asks
.

I guess that would only apply if your post about the fever was after her 11pm dose...
